Easter break ideas with a difference: the 2027 dates, what to do on a working farm over the Easter holidays, and the farm stays with spring lambs, hot tubs and room for the dog.
Picture the first morning of the Easter holidays. Mist is still lifting off the field, the kettle's ticking on the wood-burning stove, and somewhere past the hedge a lamb is shouting for its mum. The children are already in wellies, half dressed, asking if they can go and see. They're out of the tent before you've found the tea bags!
That's the Easter break a farm stay gives you, and it's why our favourite Easter holiday ideas start on a working farm. Below you'll find the 2027 dates, the best things to do on the farm over Easter (lambs, real eggs, a hunt round the tent and lunch on the stove), the farms with lambs and a hot tub, and what to pack for chilly spring nights.
When is Easter 2027, and when do the schools break up?
Easter comes early in 2027, and the big day itself, 28 March, is also the night the clocks go forward, so you lose an hour's sleep but gain lighter evenings by the fire.
| Date | What's happening |
|---|---|
| Friday 26 March 2027 | Good Friday, a bank holiday across the UK |
| Sunday 28 March 2027 | Easter Sunday, and the clocks go forward an hour |
| Monday 29 March 2027 | Easter Monday, a day off in England, Wales and Northern Ireland but not Scotland |
| Late March to mid April | The Easter holidays, set by each council |
Term dates don't line up neatly with the Easter weekend this time. North Tyneside breaks up on 25 March and goes back on 12 April, while Leeds keeps its usual first two full weeks of April (5 to 16 April). Check your own council's dates before you book, and the official bank holiday dates on GOV.UK if you're stretching annual leave around them.
Why spend your Easter break on a farm?
Holiday park Easter breaks come with a timetable of laid-on activities, while on a farm in spring the fun simply happens around you:
- Lambs in the fields, and often a few on the bottle
- Hens laying hard, so there are fresh eggs most mornings
- Primroses and daffodils along the hedges and tracks
- Open countryside to explore straight from the tent door
You also get space. There's no queue for the pool and no timetable. Kids roam the fields in a pack, grown-ups sit on the porch with a coffee, and the whole family is asleep by nine.
Every farm on our family farm holidays page has family-friendly canvas lodges with proper beds and a wood-burning stove. That matters at Easter, when a sunny afternoon outdoors can turn into a frosty night.
Which Easter holiday ideas UK families love most on the farm?
Here are seven Easter activities a farm does better than anywhere else, with a bit of fun and adventure for the whole family.
1. Meet the spring lambs
Easter sits right in the middle of lambing on most lowland farms. Fifteen of our 21 farms list lambs, and at places like College Farm near Beccles children can often help at feeding time. Our guide to lambing season explains when the lambs arrive, and if the farm has orphans on the bottle, read up on bottle feeding lambs before you go.
2. Collect real eggs from the hens
Twelve of our farms keep chickens, so ask the farmer whether guests can join the morning egg round. Boiled, dippy and still warm, they beat anything wrapped in foil.
3. Hide an Easter egg hunt round the tent
Bring a bag of treats and set up your own Easter egg hunt in the grass around your lodge, with a few farm rules in mind:
- Count them out and count them back in. Chocolate is poisonous to dogs, and farm collies love a find.
- Keep the hunt inside your own pitch, never in fields with livestock.
- Hide them off the ground on wet mornings, in log piles, porch corners and wellies.
- Write clues on luggage labels for older kids so it lasts longer than five minutes.
4. Cook Easter lunch on the wood-burning stove
Slow-cook a lamb shank stew or roast vegetables in a cast-iron pot on the stove while the kids are off exploring. If your farm has an honesty shop, ask what's in it, as lunch could come from the fields you've been walking. Have a look at our glamping with a wood burner stays if the stove's the bit you're most excited about.
5. Soak in a hot tub on a cold night
Six farms have both lambs and hot tubs, including Gwel Teg in Cornwall, Manor Farm in Hampshire and Pant y March in Wales. After a long outdoor day, hot water under the stars is the best end to an Easter getaway, and you'll find them all on our farm stays with a hot tub page.
6. Walk the farm with the dog
Dogs are welcome at farms such as Sunninglye Farm in Kent and Warren Farm in Somerset. Lambing time is when the Countryside Code matters most, so keep yours on a lead near sheep and leave gates as you found them. Our dog-friendly farm stays list the rest.
7. Follow a National Trust Easter trail
Many National Trust gardens run Easter trails through the holidays, which makes a good rainy-morning trip out. Check the National Trust what's on pages nearer the time, as the 2027 events aren't announced yet.

What to pack for an Easter farm stay
Spring on a farm means mud, bright sunshine and a frost, sometimes all on the same day. Pack for all three.
- Wellies for everyone, plus a spare pair of socks each day
- Waterproof jackets and overtrousers for the kids
- Warm pyjamas, hats and a hot water bottle for the nights
- Head torches for the walk to the loo after dark
- Chocolate eggs, luggage labels and a pen for the hunt
- Matches and firelighters for the stove
- A lead, if the dog's coming too
Book early for an early Easter
Featherdown's farm season usually opens in late March or early April. The opening weekend was 29 March in 2024 and 4 April in 2025. With Easter this early in 2027, check each farm's opening date before you set your heart on the long weekend itself.
The holiday weeks in early April are the safer bet, and lambing is usually in full swing by then. Each farm only has a handful of canvas lodges, so the Easter weeks go quickly. Of all the Easter holiday ideas UK families ask us about, a week with the lambs is the one children remember longest. Start with the farm stays with animals, pick the farm that suits your family, and check dates while there's still a choice.
